This winter workshop is aimed at complete beginners to lichens. Join Jo Stephen for a walk in the woods at Turnworth where we will be looking at some of the lichens growing on the trees there.
You’ll learn about what lichens are, how to describe their features and recognise some important bioindicator lichens. We’ll also spend some time learning to use keys to identify some of the more common species and you’ll have the opportunity to try out chemical testing.
Dress for the weather, bring a hand lens, water and lunch and a field guide if you have one (Jo will have guides to share and some keys printed out for us to use in the field).
Jo would like to caveat that she isn’t an expert lichenologist, but she does have a lot of enthusiasm.
